Rating: 3½ Rampages a victim of the Demon Virus

A strange virus attacks the human genetic code and transforms people into monsters with demonic powers. One such monster is stalking the streets of Tokyo, ripping open young women and devouring their livers. A famed psychic holds the secret to the identity of the monster. Now it's up to two molecular biologists, Koshigaya and Kimada, to reach the psychic and his beautiful daughter, before it's too late! The Demon Virus is out to conquer the world...
Yoshiaki Kawajiri's (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City) masterful writing brings Fujihiko Hosono's popular comic book to life with style and suspense. Two brave scientists battle the supernatural as one of them fights for his life and love against an enemy living within his own body.

I saw a trailer for this at an anime con a while back, and said to myself "nice art, but looks like another Doji wannabe." Boy, was I far from the mark. Even watching the dub (which is a truly excellent job, btw) I was still really impressed with this movie. Superb art, a simple yet well executed story, interesting and believable characters, and really nice music. Iím a little drawn about the rating myself, Iím really tempted to give it a four ratingÖit is one of the best horror anime out there now. If you like mature, intelligent anime (or if you liked Ninja Scroll) Iíd highly suggest buying or renting this, itís worth the cost.

Available dubbed through Urban Vision Entertainment.
