The Tale of Genji

Rating: 3½ Rampages Cover for the video

Synopsis:
This moving adaptation of Murasaki Shikibu's literary masterpiece beautifully recreates the prose and music of the Heian era as the story of Hikaru Genji's life and loves. Genji is a young courtier who is lost in his own search for real love. He goes on his daily "night" searches and manages to stumble into a few messy relationships as a result, including being the father of his own king. Possibly the most famous novel in Japan.

Review:
Herself the Elf sez: A beautifully animated movie with simple yet exquisite art which, unfortunately, only recounts a small part of the novel. The end leaves one wanting more; it feels somewhat unfinished. That being said, itís still an elegant, quiet tale capturing the subtleties and intrigue of court life and is definitely recommended.
